Living Outside: A Year in the Boundary Waters
Public invited to attend Northern Warm-up at Park Center on January 20
The St. Croix River Association (SCRA) and Namekagon River Partnership would like to invite you to attend a special event at the Park Center in Hayward, W on January 20. Avid outdoorsman and explorer, Dave Freeman will share stories about spending a year in the wilderness in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and the many rivers he has traveled with his wife, Amy.
“Rivers connect us all and Dave Freeman has spent about 20 years exploring some of the world’s most iconic waterways,” said Deb Ryun, Executive Director, SCRA. “Dave is helping us to kick-off a year of celebrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Wild And Scenic Rivers Act, which enabled protection of the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers in Minnesota and Wisconsin.”
Dave and his wife Amy have traveled over 30,000 miles in the outdoors from the Amazon to the Artic in canoes, kayaks, and dogsleds. They were named Adventurers of the Year by National Geographic and their videos and stories have been shared across the globe.
“We want to share our explorations with the public to highlight real life lessons, stress conservation, and teach backcountry skills for audiences of all ages,” said Dave Freeman.
Why are rivers important and what can they teach us? How can we advocate for and protect our waterways for future generations? Rivers often meander and change course, but these are the questions we will explore as the evening unfolds.
